The HCB currently holds over 20,000 tissue specimens from more than 15,000 patients. The HCB is certified by NSW Government and operates to national and international standards, ensuring that all tissue specimens are validated against original pathological diagnoses to confirm accuracy and assure quality. All tissue validation is performed by HCB’s own in-house anatomical pathologist.
Stored as formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissues, our samples are primarily collected from private and public patients receiving care across the hunter region. The chart below provides a snapshot of the collection, illustrating the range of specimens HCB currently holds.
The University of Newcastle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands within our footprint areas: Awabakal, Darkinjung, Biripai, Worimi, Wonnarua, and Eora Nations. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present.
